Sun, Science, and Smiles: Inside the First Weeks of Summer Camp at Sweet Potato Kids in Baltimore County!

Can you believe we are already a two weeks into our summer camp? The energy across our early learning center has been great! From out-of-this-world science discoveries to outdoor foam fun, our campers have been busy exploring, creating, and building lifelong summer memories.

At Sweet Potato Kids, we believe that summer is the perfect season for hands-on, play-based learning. Here is a look inside the moments and premium educational adventures our students have experienced so far!

To the Moon and Back: Little Scientists at Work

For our summer camp in Baltimore County, our campers blasted off into space science this month! The children have been fascinated by the night sky as they learned all about the phases of the moon. We used Oreo cookies as our moon phases for an interactive visual models and creative activity. Through this, our students discovered how the moon changes shape throughout the month! Seeing their eyes light up as they grasped these cosmic concepts proved once again that early childhood is the ultimate window for scientific curiosity!

Future Architects: Blocks & LEGO Engineering

Walk into our classrooms during project time, and you will see teamwork and spatial reasoning in full swing. Our students have been busy engineering massive towers, intricate cities, and creative structures using magnetic tiles and LEGOs.

Did you know? Building with magnetic tiles isn't just fun -- it's early foundational math and physics! It teachers children about balance, symmetry, magnetics, gravity, and cooperative problem-solving.

We’ve turned our early learning center into a vibrant art studio! Our campers have been tapping into their sensory and fine motor skills through a variety of artistic mediums:

• Nature Crafts: Students used wood, clay, and popsicle sticks to transforming elements of the earth into beautiful textured artwork that explores how nature can become a wheel. They squished, rolled, and molded clay to connect sticks to the wood and bring their 3D imaginations to life while strengthening hand muscles and learning problem solving skills!

• Finger Painting: Expressive, colorful, and delightfully messy! Finger painting has given our youngest campers a wonderful outlet for sensory exploration and emotional expression.

The Ultimate Highlight: Our Outdoor Foam Party!

Of course, it wouldn’t be summer camp without an unforgettable backyard bash. To beat the summer heat, we hosted an epic outdoor foam party! Our outdoor play area was transformed into a mountain of safe, sudsy fun. The pure joy, laughter, and giggles echoed as students danced, chased bubbles, and splashed around with their friends. It was social-emotional connection and sensory play at its absolute finest!
