Big Canvas, Big Dreams: Our Campers Help Paint a Mural!

When it comes to summer camp at Sweet Potato Kids, we love taking creative expression to a whole new level! A couple weeks ago, our campers helped to paint an entire wall in our gym for a collaboration on an extraordinary, colorful project: a giant custom mural!
Transforming our gym wall into a vibrant masterpiece was a hands-on journey that blended fine-art creativity, teamwork, and expert guidance. Here is a look inside how our little artists helped bring our walls to life!
Guided by a Master: Collaborating with a Professional Painter
To make this project truly special, we invited a professional painter to partner with our campers!
The Design Outline: Our guest artist kickstarted the process by sketching out a giant, beautiful outline across our gym wall, giving the children a grand canvas to work with.
Mastering Color & Technique: Before dipping brushes and hands into paint, the artist taught our campers about color selection, brush control, and how different colors work together to create harmony and an exciting piece of art.
Hands-On Mentorship: With gentle guidance and expert tips, the children learned proper painting techniques, gaining real-world artistic confidence alongside an industry professional! The most hands-on part of the painting was each student putting their painted handprints on the wall!
A Mural Takes Teamwork
A mural of this size requires true collaboration, and our campers rose to the challenge!
Divided into small teams, the children carefully filled in colors, painted some of their favorite images, and worked together to make sure every section of the wall glowed with energy. It was incredible to watch their creativity and color theory understanding in action as they balanced precision with giant, expressive strokes.
By sharing supplies, encouraging one another, and focusing on a shared goal, our campers learned that when we combine our individual efforts, we can create something beautiful for our entire community!

At Sweet Potato Kids, we believe in creating environments where children take pride in their spaces. Now, every time our campers walk into the gym for games, physical activities, or gatherings, they will look up at the wall and proudly say, "I helped paint that!"
